Versatility of the Hydrofoil Outline.

Ive been preaching for some time now that i beleive the foil ( the aerofoil/Hydrofoil curve) is the fastest, most efficient outline through the water. The challenge has been to correctly balance the overal volume, rocker, rail length and tail configurations to maximimise control and maneuverabilty. The Hydrofoil range has been a great success, opening peoples eyes to the possibilities of straighter foil orientated outlines. Normally the straight rail line through the tail will result in an excessively wide tail, which is fast but difficult to control. But when you reduce the wide point of the plain shape, you will increase the angle of attack of the foil which will

result in a narrow tail pod. After continued experimentation with this concept, i have reduced the lengths, widths and volume of my design to the point that i decided i could close the split tail formula to allow the design to be setup as a tri-fin. The boards performed great, retaining both the speed and transition feel of the dual fin and the 'on the button' controled turning of the thruster.it was major contribtor in my finals performance in the Japan qs' back in september when i shaped it. Hopefully it will help people understand that these outline should be veiwed (imo) as a modern performance outline that will eventualy replace the traditional thruster curve as the highest performace board category.

Freestyle performance 5'2 @ Rocky Right.

5'2" x 17 1/2" x 2" round nose/ squash tail. Hydrodynamic planning hull formula (ultra parrallel outline, deep single concave and hard edge running forward of the front foot. This board is radical! easily the most high performace small to med wave board i have ever rode, im actually just getting used to it after a few weeks riding it. You can do pretty much anything you can imagine on this board, it is stupidly fast, it projects clean, powerfull drawn out turns and the tri-fin gives you the control to jam the board in places on a wave that seem near impossible. This reverse at Rocky point the other day is a perfect example of what im talking about, the board felt like it wanted to do this turn on its own, all i had to do hold on and keep my mind flexible. Hawaii guns

Knocked up a couple of big wave dual fin planing foils for Hawaii. 5'11" x 17 3/4" x 2 1/4" Raptor V2 for (Med OTW/Pipe). widepoint/thickpoint 3.5" forward of centre mild single into deep vee double con. 6'6" x 18" x 2 1/4" twin rounded pin fish tail (SUNSET/ LARGE PIPE) mild tri-plane to mild single con falling into vee double con through the tail.

Japan 09 take 3

Back on deck in Japan again for the third time this year. More sushi and asahi superdry and good time. Typhoon season so should be plenty of waves, bit of shaping promotion and a wqs event appearance on the way. Stay tuned.
