Wow, the theory works. That board is micro, and (old) logic says it should sink!

You can delete my comments all you like but you can’t change history!

Sorry (definitely not cool) Tomo but you have already been trumped. I unleashed the refined design to the world back in 2007 at King Island and have been riding it ever since. If you haven't actually seen the award winning Musica Surfica surf doco then perhaps you've seen one of my boards. That Vee nose is my exact template. You can verify this with Taj & Vance Burrow, Nev Hyman, Oke Surfboard team, Donavon Frankenreiter, Tom Carroll, Derek Hynd, Tom Wegener, the Joske brothers, Dale Egan, Richard Tognetti, Sean Davey or Jack McCoy for starters.
My design also comes with jet fighter fins.
Again sorry- but you do ride it really well. Thanks! Shane Egan.

I have never heard of this gentleman, or his mystery board. I assure all of my followers, ALL of my designs are created by my own ituition, in the pursuit of feelings i wish to experience in the water.I understand that it is inevitable (from time to time) there will be similarites in certain elements found in other designers boards have made in the past.Certain designs in my library have outside influence (therories of past designers whom i respect or other technologies that i admire). in which i will credit that source of inspiration. I assure everyone that any likness to the designs of 'Shane Egan'and the alledged mystery board is purely coincedental.
Respectfully, Tomo.

I DARE YOU TO LEAVE THIS UP AND LET YOUR READERS DECIDE!!

HELLAVA COINCIDENCE- CHECK MUSICA SURFICA MOVIE SPECIAL FEATURES FOR THE ORIGINAL COMPACT WING!
BY SHANE EGAN AND YOU DECIDE. I'M NOT THAT MUCH OF A MYSTERY- BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME!! SURFING LENNOX BEFORE YOU WERE BORN.
The original principal is mine and that Vee nose is my exact template-
it also comes with "jet fighter" inspired fins!!
like I said hellova "coincidence" and how about the timing??
All those at King Island (including Tom Carroll, Derek and Sean Davey)
clearly expressed how unique it was and I figure they would know.
People that have been exposed first hand to my design (all around
2007-8): Taj & Vance Burrow (each have one since 2007), Nev Hyman
(took photos and measurements), Oke Surfboard team (built all of them
for me to date & had the original on their website), Donavon
Frankenreiter (has ridden one), Tom Carroll, Derek Hynd, Tom Wegener
(has ridden one), the Joske brothers, Dale Egan (has ridden one),
Richard Tognetti, Sean Davey and Jack McCoy (both took photos of it)
for starters.

regards,

Shane.

Dare excepted !!

i have seached out evidence of your mystery board. If there is anyone even interested, see the clip for images of his board.
a clip from his source Musica Surfica.

time code 1:01

looks to me like your model has indeed diamond features nose and tail, but is a whopper of a slab! looks to be in the facinity of 6'0" x 22" + wide. basicly a mini mal with sawn of corners.

Now people, do you think i have palagerised Mr Egan's dimond nose mini mal? or perhaps is it wakeboards and kiteboards that have drawn my inspiration? basically exactly the same size in dimensions and all ( 4'7 x 17 3/4") Vacum bag carbon fiber construction, complex double inside single concaves. The very source i am constatly crediting ??!! Gee i wonder..

Nice try mate! clearly you are not my source of my inspiration.

Hmmm, the link for the Musica Surfica trailer you offer does briefly show the planshape of my board but anyone interested will need to look at the movie's special features for the finer details (it is given it's own segment)- I can assure your readers it's not just a cut down Mal.
Sure my own board is 6ft, I can knee paddle it into waves (at 59) like it was 7ft + and it still performs like 6ft- therein lies the beauty of the concept- but I don't see your point. The boards I made for Taj and my son are 5ft- could still easily be smaller but again don't see your point. The planshape with the vee cut-off nose is exactly the same at any proportion. It enables any size board to have faster rail lines without the compromising curve back into the pointy ends. The concaves and channel things- everyone has done- nothing new there.
Still you don't address the Jet Fighter inspired fins in combination with the design and the timing of your model appearing after mine was exposed. Wake boards been around for 30 odd years. What held you back till now??
And with the extent of the exposure of my concept as I've stated before it's virtually impossible for you to prove you couldn't have been influenced my my design.

The main point being however is that it's a revolutionary concept that had already been applied to surfboard design (of all sizes) and exposed to a rather elite group of surfers, designers, manufacturers, photographers, film makers and put on the internet years before your "award winning" model appeared.
Hope you will be man enough to agree with that at least.
I did mention at one time I am a fan of your surfing- I am man enough to offer that!

Cheers,

Shane.

Listen mate, I appreciate the fact that you have a similar design that you are passionate about.
But the truth of the matter is that I honestly have never seen your work before, I have built a bunch of these wake inspired hulls over the past couple of years myself, just happened to be the diamond end one is the one the
Show judges chose as a more conservative look on a
Extreme design. My newer models are much more elaborate and increasingly higher performance. As for the fins , fighter jets have been my most promenient design influence over the span of my career especially tails and a wide variety of angular fins in effort to reduce drag, fins pictured are the tail wing profile of the f-22 raptor. Again, I haven't seen yours and can't comment on any similarities. If you had looked further through my blog you would see a clear design progression of progressively smaller boards with straight rail lines and aerodynamic features, culminating in the eventuality that we are debating . Straight and honest.

Had a second look over your blog as suggested and what I picked up was that in 2009 you shaped a variety of versions on my theme with extra wide tails, fuller noses, straighter rails and jet fins including square and diamond cut noses. You presented the pointy nose ones and as you pointed out yourself, kept the cut-offs in the closet or some place for 26 months with out even knowing if they would work or testing them?? Seems a bit hap-hazard to me. Your fin sets don't posses any aesthetic continuity and are reminiscent of a struggling turtle.
Sorry to be so blunt.

Cheers,

Shane.

shane, you are a kook of the highest order. your board look like garage hacked out slabs. funny, i dont think u've even ever seen a tomo in person and yet want to scrutinize and point fingers. barney.

Shane who? Exactly - how'd that design work out for you Shane? Obviously not so well as no one has ever heard your name before. Another hater, Tomo rocks.

Hi Guys, my design actually worked out really well for Nev & Tomo! You do recall I presented the concept to Nev in 2007-8. "No one has ever heard my name before"???????? Good one ANONYMOUS!

I don't see any evidence that DT ripped off Egan. Look through this blog you can see the evolution of Tomo's concepts - straight low drag outline, low toe fins, reduced length and width, wide tails. Then he does a wake board inspired double ender - diamond at both ends, then goes back to the double diamond tail - the Vangaurd model is fully developed. Then Tom Curren rides one and then Firewire picks up the phone. So while Nev might have seen Egan's design - the Vanguard was fully developed before DT came on board.

Egan and DT have arrived at a similar design through unconnected routes. The Gemini was a similar concept again.
DT's version has been successful because he has been shredding his designs on youtube and getting a ton of great reviews on the ERBB.

Oh and thanks for ripping off the patented Gemini surfboard that I paid 4000 dollars in royalty fees to manufacture because I’m not a thief.I remember you being so upset that Ian Zamora stole your speed tail at the Sacred Craft. Yes the Sacred Craft surf expo where I showed you the dual hull Gemini surf board.Apparently it’s ok for you to steal a whole revolutionary surfboard design off someone else, but its not ok when Ian copied your tail.Fire wire was so close to making the Gemini but fell short in the corporate meeting. We are still deciding if we are going after you in court. It’s nice to see I’m not the only one you have stolen from. Some day we will meet where I can give you a piece of my mind in person.I’ll let you in on a little secret. You have no idea what is about to hit you.I’m going to dedicate the rest of my career to exposing your thievery and giving the recognition back to Jeff Alexander the father of the dual hull surfboard design.Good luck.We have 4 heads dedicated to this project. If I were you I would cop to your copycat ways to save face.Have a nice day.

Hi, I am a small time backyard builder who has spent many years building and testing my own designs. My boards are very conservative compared to the shapes being discussed here. I focus on refinement and am mostly interested in edges and fin placement. Hawaii is home but I spent ten solid years in California learning surfboards and life from a highly respected shaper and mentor.
D.T., I respect what you are doing and standing up against the critics. You deserve a nod of recognition. The fact remains that to some of us your designs are rooted in others innovation. First time I saw you surfing heavy waves on a somewhat standard fish, Wow! Talent and balls. Years later there are rumors of an angular twin hull design that a "young gun" designed and is ripping. Worth checking out so I did. First impression was, " GEMINI" without the pickle fork nose. Still is.
You credit wakeboards but those designs lead back to surf. Bruce Mckee knows a lot about that history and also the cut-throat side of their ethics. We could go on all day. I am a few decades older than you D.T. Maybe you need to take the low road due to patents, royalties etc.? Do not know you so will not judge your character.
Give credit where credit is due. Not too late but getting close. Hardest thing to regain is lost trust or reputation.
Shane Egan. Your name is known among my small circle of aging friends. For someone in the industry to claim of never hearing of you is bullshit. Red flag right there. Stick to your guns. Look how long the Bonzer took to get recognition. The brothers even started with three fins which is worth noting.
All should take the high road and believe that what comes around goes around. Get some waves. Aloha from the Sandwich Islands.

hey backyard legend shaper I 'm in agreement with the amazing fact that everyone wants credit for progression!!! to me the bottom line is marketing and aussies with history of great country support with media I remember being on tour and Australia would give their athletes money to travel hello ! I've got to say the campbells brothers did have a thruster before simon change size of fins but there you go the law is change one thing and nothing can be done!!! the sad thing for me is I'm a girl in a mans world and have been shaping boards on the Big Island( where I think backyard shaper lives also that's why I call you a legend)) I can show you pictures of boards that were headed in that direction because all the cards were falling that way, as I got older not wanting to ride a longboard full time. I'm happy i got a tomo AND i DON'T CARE TO WHO GETS CREDIT AS LONG AS I'm SURFING AND ITS NOT COSTING ME TO MUCH FOR A board!!! HEY Daniel WHEN YOU GET USE STUFF I'm GAME FOR HAMMY DOWNS NO PROBLEM !!!! NEW IS OVER RATED ANYWAY !!! OLD SCHOOLMATE !!! bottom line the board rips !!!!!!! I feel grom again@ 52

I haven't seen any of the boards that firewire is in under fire for, as in the fw boards, but I do know of the Gemini by Alexander. I am all for progression in surfing, but here's a suggestion. If you want to work on putting out a Gemini why not just get hold of Alexander and work with him? Not against fw, personally don't surf them I have a local shaper who makes brilliant boards, but if I ever Gemini shape come out and Alex want involved if break the board right there on the beach. I know it's a fine line with patents and that, but it is just not cool to not give recognition when due. Ps: ridden a Gemini, trust me epoxy and all that falls out of the picture, not much room for improvement there... Lol. Why doesn't everyone all just get along, I'm really sure fw could improve the board, somehow, with technology now days? That would be awesome!
